ABOUT / PRANAV KULKARNI

Still an engineer.
Even when the work
is about people.

I enjoy the architecture decision, the awkward production failure, and the conversation that helps a team move again.

I grew up in Nashik and now live in Pune. My work has moved between high-performance computing, research software, product companies, and consulting.

At IISER Pune, I built a C++ library for computational neuroscience. At Replay Gaming, I worked on performance, product features, and analytics. At Velotio, my work grew to include architecture, hiring, delivery, and building engineering teams.

That path has kept me close to both code and organisations. I’m most useful when the product matters, the system is complicated, and the team needs a clearer way forward.

I’m Director of Engineering and a Founding Member at Velotio. My role spans product and architecture reviews, engineering leadership, hiring, delivery, and client work.

I’ve worked with teams building media workflows, cloud automation, data products, enterprise platforms, and applied AI systems. I like making the decision explicit, giving someone ownership, and checking whether the change helped.

Some of my earlier projects were a poker bot, a checkers bot, a visual SQL query designer, and a software-design reference wiki. They are part of the story too.

I still value small projects that let me understand a system by building it. The notes on this site follow that approach: code, commands, failure modes, and things worth trying yourself.
